Enabling the individual to regain functional capabilities which is the ultimate goal. In order to regain functionality and growth individuals in therapeutic settings may have to discuss pleasant/unpleasant aspects of their lives and may experience uncomfortable feelings such as anxiety, fear, shame, guilt, hatred, anger, and frustration. However, through counseling, clients learn how to appreciate themselves, make better decisions and become more open about themselves and the world they live in."
